Vancouver Transportation Overview

Vancouver has excellent public and private transportation, and a lot of it. If you're going to be using public or private transportation in Vancouver, you'll find this information helpful. This includes vancouver airport transportation, vancouver taxis, Limousines, etc.

Vancouver International Airport

Vancouver International Airport is located 15kms south of Vancouver. From downtown, the easiest way to get there is to go south on Granville Street and follow the signs. The trip takes about 30 minutes depending on traffic. For more directions, look at the excellent directions on the airport site.

Taxis
There are more than 400 taxis available at the airport 24 hours a day. They can carry 4 or 5 passengers with luggage as well as passengers with special needs. The trip from the airport to downtown costs between $23-$26, tax included. Prebooking is not necessary.

Limousines
Limojet Gold Express provides 24 hour limousine service from the airport to downtown, including the cruise ship terminals. Limousines carry 6 to 8 passengers and charge $34.24 to downtown or Canada Place cruise ship terminal.

Vancouver Airporter
The Airporter takes passengers to and from Vancouver every 15 minutes.

City Buses
City buses also go to and from the airport for $1.75. Take the #100 airport bus to West 70th Avenue, transfer to the #20 Granville Street bus north on Granville Street to downtown. The trip takes about an hour and a quarter. For bus schedule, check the translink website, call 604-953-3333 or email your questions.

If you are staying at a hotel near the airport, check the courtesy shuttle list to see if your hotel offers a courtesy shuttle or contact your hotel.

Pacific Central Station

Pacific Central Station, one of Vancouver's train stations, is located at 1150 Station Street near the corner of Main and Terminal, three minutes by SkyTrain from downtown Vancouver. The easiest way to get there from downtown (or to get downtown from there) is by SkyTrain. The Skytrain is located half a block from Pacific Central Station. When you leave the station, walk across the park and to your left. You can see the Skytrain station.

Pacific Central Station services two train companies: ViaRail and Amtrak, and two major bus companies: Pacific Coach Lines and Greyhound Lines.

Rocky Mountaineer Train Station located at 1755 Cottrell Street serves the world famous Rocky Mountaineer trains that travel between Vancouver and the Canadian Rockies. There is another Rocky Mountaineer train station in North Vancouver where the Whistler Mountaineer begins and ends its three hour, daily journeys to Whistler.

Waterfront Station

Waterfront Station, located at 601 West Cordova Street in downtown Vancouver is a good place to know about. It is right next door to the cruise ship terminal, Canada Place Convention Centre and the Pan Pacific Hotel. It is also the starting point for the SkyTrain, the SeaBus and the West Coast Express. The SkyTrain is an elevated monorail system serving Vancouver, as well as the nearby cities of Burnaby, New Westminster and Surrey.

The SeaBus passenger ferry crosses the Burrard Inlet to the Lonsdale Quay in North Vancouver. From the North Vancouver ferry terminal you can catch buses that will take you to all of the North Shore outdoor destinations: Capilano Suspension Bridge, Capilano Regional Park, Cleveland Dam, Grouse Mountain, Lynn Canyon, Lynn Headwaters Regional Park, Park Royal Shopping Centre and West Vancouver and back to Vancouver.

The West Coast Express is a commuter train that goes between Vancouver and these surrounding communities: Port Moody, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Pitt Meadows, Maple Meadows, Port Haney and Mission City. Trains go west in the morning, from Mission to Vancouver and East in the evening from Vancouver to Mission. You can check the West Coast Express schedule here.
