About
an hour and a half north of Vancouver, on Highway 99, the
Sea to Sky Highway, is one of the world's premiere ski resorts.
Whistler is a magical place all year round and well worth a visit, either on your own or with a tour. During the winter you'll find some of the best skiing anywhere along with fantastic restaurants and accommodations. During the summer, you'll find great golf, tennis, biking, hiking, fishing, kayaking, walking and sight seeing.
Getting to Whistler
The road to Whistler is spectacular but, in places only two lanes wide, so, if you drive, you won't want to hurry. Once you see the scenery with views of Howe Sound and the surrounding mountains, you'll be too busy sightseeing to hurry. Be sure to stop often or pull into wide spots on the road if the traffic builds up behind you.
And because Whistler is the site of the 2010 Winter Olympics, construction is underway on the Sea to Sky Highway, so expect some delays and expect traffic to be moving more slowly than usual.
You'll find plenty of excuses to stop along the way: Porteau Cove with its campground and diving area; Shannon Falls, the Chief, an enormous Granite mass where you can watch climbers in the summer (or you can hike up the back of it yourself). Brackendale where you'll see more bald eagles in the winter, many of them feasting on spawning salmon, than you will in any other place on earth.
