T hree Vancouver restaurants specialize in steaks: Gotham Steakhouse, Morton's of Chicago, and Hy's Encore. The first two are relative newcomers to the city, while Hy's Encore has been synonymous with steak in Vancouver for years.

Gotham Steakhouse and Morton's of Chicago both sell USDA Prime beef while Hy's Encore features the finest Alberta beef. All three restaurants offer huge portions and the décor complements the menu: big, rich, and elegant.

The menu is a la carte at both Morton's and Gotham's, which means you order each item, including potatoes and vegetables, separately. At Hy's Encore, by contrast, your steak is part of a complete dinner.

All three restaurants offer excellent appetizers, salads, vegetables, wines and desserts.

Although it's not a steakhouse, Chartwell, located in the Four Seasons Hotel, is the place many locals go for steak.
