There are a number of family hotels in downtown Vancouver that were once apartments. The result is that instead of a room, you get a whole apartment or studio apartment with living room, kitchen, separate bedroom or bedrooms and often more than one bathroom.

These Vancouver suite hotels are perfect for families because they give you plenty of room and you can save money by cooking some or all of your meals. And you have a chance to eat healthier at the same time.

The Carmana Plaza is in the perfect location right downtown Vancouver on Alberni Street, just a block from Robson Street. The Carmana Plaza has nice studio, one and two bedroom apartments hotel rooms on the lower floors and real apartments on the upper floors. Most of  the suites have great views of downtown Vancouver.

Near the Carmana Plaza is the Rosellen Suites. Located in the West End and very close to Stanley Park, the Rosellen Suites is a great place for families. The building is older and a bit frayed around the edges, but for location and convenience, you can’t beat it.

Another popular suite hotel is the Rosedale on Robson. Located close to both downtown Vancouver and Yaletown, the Rosedale is convenient to Vancouver’s beautiful main library, Queen Elizabeth Theatre and the CBC radio studios.

The Oceanside Hotel is, like the Rosellen Suites located in a residential neighbourhood very close to both Stanley Park the great restaurants and shops on Denman Street. Not everyone finds the Oceanside Hotel because it has a very low profile, but for location and amenities, it’s perfect for families.

The Lord Stanley Suites is, like the Carmana Plaza, located on Alberni Street near Stanley Park. Geared as much for business travelers as families, the Lord Stanley Suites has a small office in each suite, high speed internet access and washers and dryers. The Lord Stanley tends to be more expensive than some of the other options listed.

The Times Square Suites are a West End secret accommodation located on Robson Street less than half a block from Denman Street and just a couple of blocks from Stanley Park. You could walk past this inconspicuous building for years without knowing it is a hotel.

The only drawback to the Times Square Suites is that they are close to so many great places to eat that you might find the only time you ever turn on the stove is to boil water for coffee or tea.

La Grande Residence is part of the Sutton Place Hotel and is located right next door to it on a very convenient location on Burrard Street near Robson. This is a beautiful suite hotel with a pool and gym and more amenities than many of the other suite hotels.

And don’t be fooled by its name or its affiliation. There are times when you can get a suite here, even in summer, for not much more than you’ll pay for budget accommodations at other hotels. Always price La Grande Residence on one of the hotel sites before making reservations elsewhere.
