A visit to
South Granville street could easily take up a whole day's exploration. It is home to many of Vancouver's best art galleries, antique stores and clothing and furniture shops. It also has some excellent restaurants and cafes.
South Granville is easy to find. Take the #8 bus south on Granville. Or drive across the Granville Street Bridge and park on Granville or in one of the nearby underground parking facilities.
If you want to visit galleries, consult our Art Galleries and First People Art pages. You can also pick up the booklet "Preview: The Gallery Guide," (most galleries have them) where you'll find a map listing all the galleries on Granville. Most are on the west side of the street.
Besides great galleries, The Granville neighborhood has great clothing, accessory, furniture, and antique shops. It also has good restaurants. Here are some suggestions.

Bin 942 1521 West Broadway 604 734 9521
| |
Bin 942, like Bin 941 on Davie Street, is a long, narrow, very hip tapas restaurant. But beware. These are big tapas, so big that one is big enough for a lot of people. If there are two of you, three orders will just about do it. This place is open for lunch M-F and is just a half block west of Granville on Broadway. The food is excellent; the atmosphere is fun, better at lunch than dinner unless you like the buzz some people get from noisy, crowded places.

T 1568 West Broadway 604-878-3000
| |
If you'd rather have tea than lunch or dinner, then you can't do better than T. Just across the street and a bit west of Bin 942, this minimalist shop sells a remarkable assortment of the most exotic, delicious teas and tea pots. T both serves and sells tea. It's a quiet place on a busy street.
(Across the street is Escape To Provence, a shop selling everything that smacks of Provence: lavender, linens, china, oil, soap, spices, accessories.)

Shaughnessy Park
You can also pick up excellent picnic food at Meinhardt Fine Foods at 3002 Granville. If you decide to picnic, you'll find the tiny Shaughnessy Park only a few blocks away where you'll not only get a glimpse of some of Vancouver's most magnificent mansions but also enjoy the company of 47 different species of trees in this one small park.
To get to the park, go south one block from Meinhardts and walk one block south east on McRae to the park. If you're driving, go south a couple of blocks past Meinhardts and turn east (left) onto Angus Drive and follow it one block to the park.
