A Memorable Trip to the Canadian Rockies: 2012

Overview

Banff National Park

The Rocky Mountaineer train between Vancouver and Banff (service available both directions) is our most popular short train trip for a number of reasons.

This two day Rocky Mountaineer trip gives you the chance to travel through Canada’s Rocky Mountains, and spend a night or more in Banff National Park that includes the most picturesque town in the Canadian Rockies.

Furthermore, Banff is only 55 km (34 miles) from Lake Louise so you are close enough to visit one of the world’s most popular destinations.

Finally, Banff is only 140 km (86 miles) from Calgary International airport, the closest airport to the Rockies.

Airport shuttles are available between Calgary airport and Banff seven times each day and take 1 hour 45 minutes.

Because Banff is the visitor hub of the Canadian Rockies, the two day train trip between Vancouver and Banff forms the basis for many of our Rocky Mountaineer Rail packages.

Options

Option 1: Add hotels in Vancouver and/or Banff, luggage handling and transfers between the Rocky Mountaineer train station and your Vancouver and Banff hotels – This essential option turns your basic two day journey into a real vacation. Let us book your hotels, lug your bags and arrange hotel/train station transfers.

Option 2: Shuttle Service between Calgary International Airport and Banff – Thisconvenient addition lets you spend a night or more in the Canadian Rockies and still begin or end in Calgary, either downtown Calgary or Calgary International airport. Add $52 per person

Option 3: Car rental in Banff or Calgary – Rocky Mountaineer rail packages are extremely flexible. If you prefer to tour the Rockies independently, you can rent a car in Banff or Calgary, with or without Gypsy Guide commentary, explore the Canadian Rockies on your own, then drop the car in Banff, Calgary, Jasper or Vancouver.

Option 4: Tour to Lake Louise – It seems a shame to get within 55 km (33 miles) of Lake Louise and not see it. If you can spare a half day in the Rockies, then add this 6.5 hour tour to Lake Louise and the world renowned Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise including lunch.

Option 5: Day Trip to Lake Louise and the Columbia Icefield – This all day tour, 360 km (224 mile) round trip, includes Lake Louise en route to the Columbia Icefield. This tour comes with or without the all terrain Ice Explorer ride onto the Athabasca Glacier.

Option 6: Helicopter tours of Glaciers and the Canadian Rockies – The easiest and most awe inspiring way to experience the vastness and grandeur of the Canadian Rockies is to see them by air. We offer either 10 minute or 25 minute helicopter tours as part of selected Rocky Mountaineer rail tours.

If some of these options sound good, but you’d rather buy an inclusive package, then consider the Canadian Rockies Highlights. This 6-night tour includes a night at the Chateau Lake Louise, two helicopter tours, overnight stays in Banff, Vancouver (2), Calgary, Kamloops and all your transportation and transfers.
