Vancouver and Calgary are the two largest cities served by the Rocky Mountaineer and both cities have international airports so you can begin your visit to the Canadian Rockies by flying into either city and then depart from the other.

If you begin your travels in Vancouver, and you want to visit the Canadian Rockies, you should take the Rocky Mountaineer train from Vancouver to Banff and NOT Calgary. The train that goes to Banff goes on to Calgary, but there’s no point in going all the way to Calgary and then backtracking 86 miles to Banff.

If your interest is only the Rocky Mountaineer experience, then taking the train from Vancouver to Calgary is wonderfully convenient. However, if you want to experience both the train AND the Canadian Rockies, get off the train in Banff, rent a car or tour by motor coach through the Canadian Rockies.

At the conclusion of your visit to the Rockies, you can drive to Calgary, if you have a rental car; the price is the same whether you drop the car in Banff or Calgary. If you see the Rockies by motor coach, you can take a motor coach from Banff to Calgary International airport at the conclusion of your visit.

If you are starting your visit to the Canadian Rockies in Calgary, fly into Calgary and take a shuttle from the Calgary airport to Banff. The shuttle will drop you at your Banff hotel. You can then pick up a rental car or see the Rockies by motor coach tour. You can then take the Rocky Mountaineer from Banff, or Jasper to Vancouver and fly out of Vancouver.

The one way Rocky Mountaineer tour options include both Vancouver and Calgary. For more information and clarifications, call us at 604-990-9299 or 800-913-9207 or Email
